On Monday, Feb 21, 2011, an opening ceremony for a new computer lab has been held at the Great Conference Hall Building. The computer lab donated by the German DAAD Foundation is designated for the benefit of Electrical Engineering students.
The IUG president and Dr. Helga Baumgarten, Head of DAAD office in Palestine opened the new computer lab. Dr Baumgarten has expressed appreciation for the level of services offered by the University for students. She pointed out that the Foundation contribution for the laboratory is to help in the re-establishment of university laboratories. It is worth noting that the laboratories have been destroyed in the recent war in the Gaza Strip.
Dr. Shaath has expressed his gratitude for the DAAD foundation support for institutions of higher education, noting that the support is in many ways, including: scholarships for master and doctoral programs, and the opening of science laboratories at the universities in Gaza Strip, Dr. Shaath explained that such support enhances the communicative relationships between the Palestinian people and the German Government under the difficult circumstances experienced by the Palestinian people.
Prof. Jendia in his turn has highlighted that the Foundation’s support for the opening of a computer lab at the university embodies the spirit of academic cooperation between the Islamic University and the international institutions: it enhances the presence of the university in the educational community and increases the determination to achieve the academic mission of the Engineering College.
